I have been ready to pull my hair out lately in regards to my class schedule for year two because every time I would log into my u of c another lecture or tutorial session would be closed. Dratted late enrolment appointment! Aaanyways... I managed to finally figure out some decent alternatives keeping to the times I wanted. I hate having long breaks between classes. I'd rather just go to school and have back to back classes and go home for lunch. In the Winter I will have a 2 hour break on MWF, but at least it will mean that I finally get to take the Astronomy class that I've been dying to take. And then it means I get a nice long lunch with friends, or a work out at the gym on campus, or whatever...
Also... Kirsten and I have been finding some cute apartments in Sunnyside. Originally I was hoping to be a little more NW than that, but I actually think that its a great location because it's halfway between school and work. Since I will most likely be working Mon-Fri evenings (teaching piano at a studio, privately, and keeping 2 shifts per week at Joeys) it will be easier if I am not on one extreme end of the city or the other. I'm getting so excited to move! As much as I like my current home... I'm anxious to be in a much better location. It will make life so much easier on so many levels. Plus... I've decided to redecorate my room. I haven't done that in years, so I'm excited! I have lots of ideas and can't wait to start putting them into action. I will definitely be doing a before and after blog post ;)

So that's that. I might be swapping a couple of classes in the Fall session if someone drops the Religious Experience class, and/or if there is space available in the Psychology class. Phew what a process! I was getting so irritated trying to find more and more back up classes. There is a limit on how many 200 level classes you can take, adding further to the difficulty of finding such back ups. But it's all done now... thank god!
The sun is shining and I'm on the patio tonight! Huzzah :)

excited for year two!
So I have been pouring over course outlines and times for the past couple of weeks, and I have finally figured out my schedule for school next year :) I also wisely looked up all of the professors that I didn't know on ratemyprofessor.com so I feel quite confident that it will be a fantastic year.
I thought I'd share the courses I am planning to take because I am very excited about them. I almost can't wait for September to arrive. While it's been very nice making money again, I have decided that working is over-rated. I'm tuckered out from this full time restaurant gig of mine. Good thing I get a vacation in August at least. Ok without further ado...

Anthropology 435 - Evolutionary Anthropology (this course sounds super interesting, and it's being taught by the head of the department who is really nice and a great professor...eeeee!)

I. Am. So. Excited!!
I am also looking into doing two study abroad adventures. I want to do the Primatology Studies in Ghana or Belize for 4-6 weeks in Spring, and also a term abroad in Amsterdam. I just haven't decided which one to do in which year. They have to be in my 3rd and 4th years, but I have to figure out how the term abroad would work if I'm teaching piano... Hmmm... Some how, some way... It's a little scary to think about living in a whole different country across the world for 6 months, but it's also something I've always wanted to do so it's an exciting plan too!
Well I'm off to bed. I worked a lounge shift this evening until 12 midnight, and now get to open the patio at 9:30am tomorrow... *sigh* It's great to be getting better shifts and try out the lounge and patio, but dang... I'm going to need a darn good americano tomorrow morning.

One Year Anniversary Getaway to Canmore
Yesterday (aka June 5th) was Gavin and mine's one year anniversary. To celebrate, we headed to Canmore late Saturday afternoon and spent a lovely sunny night and day at Silver Creek Lodge. It was really nice to get out of the city, especially with the endless construction going on every where. And to finally have some time together since we have both had crazy schedules as of late. The weather was great, and we thoroughly enjoyed kicking up our feet and relaxing. We had a delicious dinner of steak, asparagus, mini bell peppers, and crab along with a tasty Pinot Grigio. Mmmm.... And we made good use of the amenities such as the hot tub, steam room, and huge bath tub (well I made use of that one at least lol). And now for some pictures :)

News!
This has been a really good week so far, I must say. First I got really positive feedback from work, and then... *drum roll please*...
Gavin won the White Hat Award for Best Concierge/Bell Service in all of Calgary last night!! Huzzah! I'm so proud of him. Here we are at the Jubilee after the ceremony, which I might add felt like a very rowdy version of the Oscars! Congrats babe, you deserve it!
And then this morning I was chatting with one of my really good friends whom I've known basically all my life, and she told me that she got into Med School at U of S!! More huzzahs! I'm so proud of her! She has been doing so well in school, and I know that she will be a great Obstetrician. She's got another 8+ years before she will officially be an "Obstetrician", but I'm sure the journey will be a great one. Shout out to smarty pants Teghan! :)
On top of all this great news, the weather has been really nice and sunny the past couple of days. I planted sweet peas yesterday, so hopefully the now rainy weather will help them grow!

I still haven't met handsome Daniel, but I hope I can this Summer. It's still crazy to me that a flight from London-Copenhagen (totally different countries) is less expensive than a flight from Calgary-Van Island. Yes, populations are greater in Europe... but still.

First Year is Over!
Well I finished my last final on Thursday. I can't believe how fast the year has flown by. I thoroughly enjoyed my first year at university, and I'm looking forward to the next one. Although the Summer break has been anticipated also of course.
My RELS professor this term was a little cantankerous, but in the end he wound up giving me some very positive feedback for our essay-style final exam, and I got an A- overall in the class which I was pleasantly surprised with since so many people dropped his class due to failing... He asked some bizarre test questions like: "T or F: According to lecture, Osama Bin Laden is a terrorist" and "T or F: Humans have religion because we are the only animals with opposable thumbs." Ya...I'm not joking. Those were actual questions on tests worth 30% of the final grade. However, his class was super interesting despite his slightly Jekyll/Hyde personality. He really made the class think deeply about the roots of religion (and ideas really in general). For the final essay exam I chose to discuss Judaism, and how if there was no glaciation, there would not have been a fertile Levant region, and ergo no western religions would have developed. It was really cool breaking religion down to a biological level, and really added to research and thoughts I already had regarding religion. He made a pretty funny comment that I will probably always remember regarding the Bible, "I really would like to know whether they knew they were making this shit up or if they really thought 'God' was talking to them." lol!
It turns out that I do not like Greek and Roman Mythology and Literature as much as I thought I would, but I did well in the course, and have decided to trust my instincts next time. If I don't really like the class within the first week of classes, it's probably not going to be something I enjoy. So if it's an option, then I can drop it and take something I will enjoy more. It was an interesting subject, but just not my cup of tea.
I loved my Anthropology class, as I thought I would, and got an A overall in that. It was interesting to discuss how we are facing a 6th major extinction on our planet, and it's our fault. I'm so excited to continue with this subject. I'm planning on doing a group study program in my 3rd or 4th year where you go to Belize for 6 weeks and study Black Howler monkeys. The department is super nice and enthusiastic, and I'm really looking forward to doing my BSC in ANTH before Law school. Plus, I'm interested in Conservation Law, so it will tie together nicely.
The Art History professor I had was seriously the best prof ever! He is such a nice and funny older guy. I hope to take more classes with him in the future. I learned how literally everything in religious artwork is symbolic, and it was very interesting.
And hopefully since I got all within the A-range, I will get some scholarships which will definitely help reduce my student loan debt. Dang Law school is expensive!! $70,000+!!! Crazy pills! I'm sure it will be worth it in the end though. I'm trying to just not think about it too much lol.
In other news...
Thursday night Gavin surprised me with my favourite flowers (lily of the valley) in this cute pot. Along with a home workout kit, so that I can start to do P90X which I've been wanting to do, but just didn't have any equipment. It was really cute. For almost a year he has been asking the florist that delivers flowers to his work about lily of the valley...they are really hard to find and have a very limited season. It was the best surprise to celebrate my first year being completed! Here are a couple pictures of the flowers:
After my crazy week of training at Joey restaurant early in the morning, coming home to study then running to piano lessons, writing a final...etc... I was happy to get normal amounts of sleep over the past weekend and start eating normally again too. However, the week of stress caught up with me and I've been home sick the past few days. Should have taken more Cold FX I guess. Drat it all... I hate being sick. It's sunny out and there are places to go and things to do! Plus, I have my beverage test at Joey tomorrow late afternoon. Let's hope lots of rest, liquids, and supplements will kill this bug by tomorrow!

We had a family brunch this past Sunday, and I finally got to meet my new little nephew Adam. He is so tiny, but has such an expressive face! I can't wait to see him again <3
Now if only I could figure out why blogger sucks so bad when posting pictures... These pictures are super clear on my computer, but all grainy on the blog *stab*. Plus, it never lets me put pictures beside each other even though there is plenty of space... stupid blogger *grumble*
