PBS is doing a Masterpiece Classic series for Emma.
There are three episodes in total.
Of course though, you can't watch it online unless you are in the USA. Yarg.
Somehow I will find out how to watch them.
In other news, The Tudors Season 4 should be starting in April! It should be the last one since Season Three ended with him bedding Katherine Howard. Goody. I am intrigued by his sixth wife Katherine Parr. She kept her head, literally.
I find it kind of funny that King Henry VIII had 3 Katherines (different spellings), 2 Annes, and 1 Jane. Jane was the only one to produce a son. She was also apparently his favorite/most loved wife; he was buried with her. Interesting.
Also, I've been reading Alice in Wonderland, and was wondering if the concept of "off with her/his head!" was possibly partially inspired by Henry VIII. Hmmm.
Which reminds me...Alice in Wonderland comes out next weekend! I am excited to see it.
I see a lot of correlation between Queen Mary and her 'bloody' reign and the Queen of Hearts as she tried to purify England from her father's reign and bring Catholicism back into play. I've always loved the Tudor era although I just can't get into The Tudors as a tv show! I read a novel recently told from Katherine Parr's POV and although it wasn't extremely well written it was still very interesting. If I remember the title, I'll pass it on to you :)

ReplyDeleteThanks Natalie, I'd like that :) I have a book from her POV on my shelf...I wonder if it's the one you read...I think it's called "The Last Wife of Henry VIII" by Carolly Erickson. The Tudors is definitely sexed up. I like it only because I really enjoy the era, and Jonathan Rhys Meyers is one good looking Henry VIII lol. But I understand not being able to get into it.
ReplyDeleteSteph: So far I have really enjoyed the books. I want to finish them before I go see the movie. The movie is supposed to take place after the books, when Alice is 19...should be interesting. And it's in 3D...*rubs hands together excitedly*
Gosh, that's exactly the book! you're like 30 steps ahead of me here :) So, don't expect a lot from it, but it's still a pretty good read for a snowy or rainy blah weekend spent with hot chocolate or chocolate chai tea and cute beagles :)
